CAN Community Health, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) based in Sarasota County serving those affected by HIV/AIDS across the United States.
In 1991, CAN emerged from the union of Sarasota AIDS Support, Inc. and the Comprehensive Care Clinic, and opened its new 9,000+ square foot facility in December 2000. After 20+ years of service, CAN has over 1200 patients enrolled with a staff of over 150 employees. CAN, which changed its name to CAN Community Health in 2017 is a private, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping and giving care to people living with HIV/AIDS. Our belief is that comprehensive care is the most cost-effective approach to delivering aggressive and intensive treatment for HIV/AIDS. Our services include case management, medical services, dental services, behavioral health services, and free STD/HIV testing within a confidential setting.
Case management is the link patients need to access appropriate HIV/AIDS medical and support services that range from medical, dental, lab, housing and other support services. One of the largest federal programs is the Ryan White Program for individuals living with HIV/AIDS who have no health insurance public, private, or lack financial resources to get the care they need for their HIV/AIDS disease. Case managers work with patients to develop individualized plans of care to address patient needs and help them access other resources in the community.
Our physicians are board-certified Infectious Disease physicians specializing in HIV treatment as well as provide primary care. If you need a specialist consult we are always available. Even if an HIV/AIDS patient does not have insurance or other means of payment, we generally can arrange for them to be seen.
Patients also have access to dental and behavioral health services at our Sarasota location. We offer a full range of quality dental procedures for HIV/AIDS patients on a tight budget. CAN provides therapeutic counseling to complement medical services in treating the whole patient. The power of a support system allows patients to feel positive and in control of their health and lives.
Our education programs include HIV Prevention and Patient Education throughout the community. We offer free anonymous and confidential STD/HIV testing by trained counselors and testers. This is a service we provide to anyone that would like to be tested free of charge.
