Haven Youth Center, Inc. has been in operation since 2006 as a nonprofit organization. Haven was founded by William Brawner, a national HIV/AIDS advocate and activist, and a now forty-year AIDS survivor.
The mission of Haven has been to provide HIV prevention, counseling, and HIV/AIDS education services within the city of Philadelphia. Over the past fifteen years, Haven has been committed to the above mission by delivering effective HIV Prevention services to youth and adults at risk for HIV infection, and to persons living with diagnosed HIV infection (PLWH). This has been achieved through offering focused HIV testing, linkage-to-care for individuals diagnosed as HIV positive, promotion of condom use/condom distribution, PrEP and nPEP referrals, and HIV/AIDS education and awareness outreach.
At Haven Youth Center, Inc. we are committed to effectively applying this integrated low-threshold approach to sexual health services within the Southwest Philadelphia community. We believe that offering low-threshold sexual health services significantly improve one’s immediate and lifelong health by identifying health issues early. Utilizing this approach we are able to offer sexual health services that cover broad preventive measures such as, sexual history or risk assessments; education; counseling, and testing for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).
